Spring Time in Paris

SPRING HAS COME

Days are getting longer, brighter. The skies are high and of the prettiest shades of blue. Flowers blossom and new leaves sprout. I have been happy. My two camelias have been in full bloom. They were adopted last year and most of their buds didn't get to open up. For the whole year, I was worried, trying to tend to them as much as I could. And now, looking at the beautiful flowers, sooo gorgeous in light pink and deep red, I finally understand, they needed time to grow and adjust to the new environment. Because good things take time, don't they?

So, the theme of this month is to take time to grow. There has been so much that has happened the last few months. I have reached 2000 followers in Instagram, opened my Youtube channel, built my first shop, and have been lucky enough to receive your support during the way (thank you so much ❤️) April marks my first 6 months out on my own, there have been ups and downs. And in order to grow as fast as I can, I stressed myself out and had to take care of non-art stuff that were necessary but nonetheless super tedious and time-consuming. I think it's best to take a few moments, step back and review what works, what doesn't work, see if I'm doing the right things, going the right way. So I'm taking a break from social media and concentrating most of my time to make art, just pure art. That's the very first thing, and the most important, that matters, that has led me here, now.

Experiments

I've been trying to get myself accquainted with new media, acrylics, gouaches, oil paints and inks,... and have a lot of fun exploring them. I've finished my study in acrylics of 'Girl with a Pearl Earing' by Vermeer and continue to do my very first oil painting. The experience was such a delight! I'd never known that I would fall for oil painting almost instantly, loving the soft textures and way that the medium is so malleable, so versatile and so forgiving.

I first saw the Daydreaming ( La rêverie in French), also known as the Portrait of Jeanne Samary by Augustin Renoir at the Louis Vuition Fondation last autumn in Paris. Jeanne was a young actress in la Comédie-Française...

APRIL INSPIRATIONS

Girl with a Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier

Book of the Month

My favourite book of the month is Girl with a Pearl Earring (surprise 😂!) I read it during my portrait study in order to understand a bit more the story behind the painting (though fictionally) and I loved it! Much better than the movie since there are so many important details that were left out in the movie that make it confusing.
