They say you can never recreate exactly the same watercolour painting twice. You can never predict exactly how the pigments mix with each other, mix with water, pigments of the same brand and from different sources, hand made or mass produced. The timing, the duration, the quantity of water and pigment, the humidity, the brush and the brush strokes will change everything. It’s annoying and it’s super exciting. It’s the very spontaneity and looseness of the medium that make it so fascinating and entincing.
Over the years, I’ve ventured out and experimented with charcoals, contés, pastels, Chinese paints, Japanese paints, graphite pencils, but I’ve always come back to watercolours. It was my first love, and still my best love.
